“First and foremost, educators come extremely experienced with degrees to main that standard.” said instructor/cosmetologist Jon Holland, “Golden West has always maintained what the industry wants and needs and we deliver excellent education in all aspects of cosmetology program.”

Holland went through the cosmetology program here at Golden West and he moved through the industry from working at a salon to co-owning a salon and now teaching on campus while remaining a cosmetologist part-time.

The cosmetology and barbering program is a full-time one-year program that starts every nine weeks. Esthetics is only an-18 week long program.

Cosmetologists learn about haircutting, styling and coloring, as well as facials, manicures and other beauty trends that relate to the industry. Estheticians focus on facials and spa treatments, reflexology, waxing and make-up.

Starting in fall 2016, Golden West will also offer a barber course to even better educate the students. Aside from at one community college in Los Angeles, we will be the only school in the area to have barbering courses.

That’s where the public can reap the benefits. The cosmetology program takes clients every day, allowing soon to be professionals practice on human hair under the watchful eye of an instructor.

A variety of services include haircuts, conditioning treatments, scalp treatments and manicures. The students practice meticulously on doll heads before taking on any human clients, They are soon to be professionals to work in salons, they know what they’re doing and their skills definitely deserve some recognition.

All services are performed by future professionals under the supervision of a licensed instructor. Children had not permitted on the clinic floor unless they are receiving services and must be supervised by an adult in the waiting area. For chemical services, you must be 15 years old and 5 years old for haircut services.
