Poetry is a powerful art form that is not widely perceived as important, but it is. It is important to the human mind, to create or read a poem that enriches and inspires, which angers or blesses our minds.
The Associated Students of Golden West College is holding a Poetry and Creative Writing contest that any student of GWC can enter. It is a chance to create and be rewarded for it.
All poems must be typed, and no more than 80 lines per side of paper. These single spaced art works must be in Times New Roman or Courier New with a font size of 12.
Students may not submit more than three poems but they can enter both the Creative Writing and Poetry Contest. Contestants must be a current student at GWC for Spring 2010 and have the purple sticker that proves it, available at the Administration Building at the photo booth.
To submit the poems by the deadline, students must deliver their masterpiece in person at the Student Activities Office, located on the second floor of the Student Center. The deadline to which one must submit their work is Monday, March 15, at 7 p.m.
The winners with of both contests will be announced on Wednesday, April 14 during the ASGWC daytime event, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. in the Student Center Patio.
Awards are GWC Bookstore gift certificates that are up to $75.
