Cell phone etiquette missing

Ring, ring….. buzzz, buzzzz. Tap, tap, tap, tap. Click, click, click. Cell phones. UGH. They are everywhere. Not only are they phones, but now they are text machines. For those of you who think no one can tell when you are texting, you’re wrong.

Last week I was sitting in a theater watching a movie when a light caught my eye. No, it was not part of the movie. It was the girl sitting six rows down and four seats to the left. Yes, it was that distracting. Wait, it was not just a quick short light. No, she had to text back and forth for over 20 minutes.

Yesterday I was sitting in class and a guy was playing video games on his iPhone. He did not even stop when the teacher was lecturing about critical information that was going to be on our test. He did not turn it off until class was over.

Please don’t get me wrong, even I have a cell phone, and yes I also text. But, where is the etiquette? There is a time and place for everything. Cell phone rudeness is at an all-time high. What’s worse is that children are getting younger and younger who are carrying cell phones. So where does the line get drawn?

Lawmakers took a stab at the growing problem and made it illegal to talk or text while driving unless you have a hands free set. Teachers have made rules (that don’t seem to be followed) of no phones on during class. So what is next?

How do we get people to not be so rude to others around them? Maybe this problem is much deeper then phones and texts. This could just be a sign of larger problems with undisciplined youth.

I think that will be my next story to look into.
