With a surprisingly realistic storyline, incredible acting, and booming special effects, “Iron Man 2” has officially redefined superhero movies, in my eyes.
Recently, the huge trend in fabricating movies out of comic book characters seems to have caused Hollywood to drop its standards in production. Most of these new superhero action films are comprised of over-the-top combat scenes, and a series of really dry one-liners. Let me just say that this is not at all the case with “Iron Man 2”.
The movie opens with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) sitting in federal court, with the United States government demanding that he hand over the Iron Man weapon. As you can imagine, Stark informs the government (in a not-so-subtle way) that it’s not going to happen. This basically lays the foundation for the entire movie.
Between having to deal with the government trying to confiscate his Iron Man invention, and warding off a psychotic Russian physicist named Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), Stark has his work cut out for him.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s the phenomenal acting skills of Robert Downey Jr. that really make this movie amazing. The Tony Stark character is a complete jackass, and Downey does a fantastic job of bringing him to life, and adding a little extra rude reality to the whole superhero scene.
The other major selling point to this movie is the use of special effects. Unlike other movies of its kind, “Iron Man 2” focuses more on the storyline itself, and Tony Stark as an individual, rather than just compiling two hours of explosions and nonstop ass kicking.
Overall, “Iron Man 2” exceeded all expectations, and gets a 10 out of 10. The use of perfect synchronizing, the work of an outstanding cast, and just the right dose of special effects made this movie the greatest superhero film I’ve ever seen. Period.

Horrible movie. John F has lost his mind and seen fit to include himself as a main character. Rourke is under used while ScarJo is superflous.
Rubbish dialogue. Outlandish set pieces (see Paltrow and John Favearu drive in the oppossite direction of an F1 race in Monaco for details). Silly plot progression. Limp after-thought final battle.
Yawn. Robert Downey Jr does a decent job but its overall a tedious slice of pop culture nonsense.
